| copying cd's is evil, but i do let people copy cd's from me, dunno why. now when i was visiting my relatives, they copied 3 nightwish cd's and one lullacry cd from me... at least they wouldn't buy this Lullacry cd in any case. and it's good that bands get more listeners. and Entwine is even more unknown band that i thought - I found an interview and there was that Gone sold only 2.000 in finland. it's really... nothing. but i guess diEversity has sold something like 4.000 at least i hope so |

I don't let anyone here in Switzerland copy my CDs. I only do it for people whom I really trust that they would buy the CD if they like it. Like that I managed to make two people buy Before The Dawn's "My Darkness" *g*. Not much but a start, hehe. _________________ Giving up is easy

I download and I copy and I don't feel ashamed about it at all. The way I see it I'm just trying out a cd before I spend money on it. I know you can go to a music store and do it there but I don't think that you can properly listen to an album when there are all these other people around. I need to hear how it sounds in my car, how it sounds on my headphones, how it sounds on the computer. All good cds require at least a few listens to understand how it was put together. If I really really love a cd I go out and buy the album. I've never stopped buying cds but downloading has allowed me to determine if my money would be well spent. I've downloaded a couple of cds and I only listened to them a couple of times and then put them away only to never hear them again. Then I'm glad I didn't spend my money on them. But other cds I listen to constantly so I make sure to spend the money on it.
Especially here in North America, so many cds are released each week and it gets worse when Christmas approaches, it's hard to decide what to spend your money on. Admitedly my downloading has gotten worse this summer but only because I literally have no money. I've treated myself to a couple of real life cds but they're not items I can afford right now.
I wish cds were cheaper, then I could buy more. _________________ Be all that you can be in the Gummy Army! |

I think downloading is a good way to see if you like the music. I have 3 entwine albums. But before I bought it, I downloaded some tracks and then I realized how much i like it. Now I downloaded some songs of a new fave band of mine "zornik" to see if I like them. And I do..I can download them all, but I don't think downloading full albums of your fave artists isn't a good thing. So i'm gonna buy the albums. This week I read a message from a belgium singer about downloading...And i was shocked to read about the conciqents of it.. He said he could make twice more money if there weren't so much copied cd's. Look there are artists how even't notice this, because they are just too rich. But there are also many many groups who aren't that famous and if everybody keeps coping..then they can't live of their music anymore. And that's a shame! I have orignal cd's from all my fave artists..cuz by buying them I support them! But on the other side. When I get my Zornik cd's..my friend wants to copy them. I think I will let het do it. Cuz by pretty unknown artists is it good to spread it. Then more ppl get to know it..but I think if they like it..Then they should by a orginal copy. So..this is my point of view... _________________

I had no idea i would cause this sort of a Thread. hahaha.
But i have noticed sometimes threads take a distintive change into someone elses path but i dont mind since it does involve Shamrain in a way.
I have a friend in Genova who was kind enough to send me the Shamrain cd. She said that if anything happens to it that i should give her a call so i can get it replaced (now that is a good friend). But i will bother her since the band is gonna do more work.
Cd Burning isnt that bad. If you give it to your friends to check out the band an they dont buy the album that thats just wrong. I do buy albums personally i dont let the internet keep me from buying the Music that i love. _________________ http://www.xanga.com/private/home.aspx

yep, that's nothing you should feel ashamed of. at least i think so. I've downloaded all Entwine's older songs from net, but now I've found all of the cd's from stores, except Time Of Despair. and usually i go to buy all of the albums i download from net, as soon as i'll find them. |

| cos you're so much against all copying and downloading cd's from net, do you think it's okay to download gig videos from net? or music videos? cos I do that a lot, and I'm not stealing from anyone cos some of the gigs have been shown in tv, and i couldn't buy them in any case |

I have discovered a lot of bands with soulseek and winmx(less) and in the most cases i have buyed the album after listening all thier songs....That is the easiest way to buy a cd if you don't have a high budget to spend. _________________ Suicide Squadrons from Southern Europe |

i'm all for downloading gigs and music videos. i mean, the gig bootlegs aren't ripping off the band, as they aren't selling them, and as for music videos, if you can watch it on tv, there shouldn't be anything wrong with downloading it. most of the music vids i've seen for my fav bands have all been downloaded, as they don't play any of that stuff here.
besides, music videos are advertisements for a band's product (the music) anyway, so you'd think they'd want you to see the vids any way you could, as they entice you to purchase the album.
but that's just my take on it - any other thoughts? _________________ mmm...cruelty |
